Ilford Hypam Fixer Overview
Ilford Hypam Fixer is a non-hardening rapid fixer supplied as a liquid concentrate that is diluted with water for use.
 
Hypam is easy and convenient to use. Without the addition of a hardener it is suitable for all black and white film and paper, manual and machine processing applications in the temperature range of 18°C (66°F).
 
It can also be used for fixing other specialist, X-ray, scientific products and graphic arts materials.
The fixing agent in HYPAM is ammonium thiosulphate, it contains no sodium thiosulphate (hypo).

Q: What's the difference between Ilford Hypam and Ilford Fixer?
A: They are both non-hardening fixers, but you cannot use a hardener with Ilford Rapid Fixer. Ilford makes Hypam Hardener to be used with Hypam Fixer if you want to harden.
 
Hypam is great for both film and paper. It works as well with other specialty materials like X-ray film. It is functionally equivalent to Ilford Rapid Fixer, save and except with Hypam you are able to add hardener, whereas Rapid Fixer cannot be used with hardener. With most modern films and papers, there is no need for added hardener.
